Getting Started at IU

 

Although there is a more comprehensive list of campus resources available on this site, the following list outlines those that may be of most interest to you as you begin your educational pursuits at IUB:


Applying to the University:
Office Of Admissions -- This is the traditional method of applying to the university.
General Studies -- For adults beginning or completing degrees at IU Bloomington.

Applying for financial aid:

Computing:
Once you have been admitted and have been issued a University ID number, visit this site to establish your IU computing account: http://itaccounts.iu.edu

Where to Park:
All students are eligible to purchase an “E” parking permit. More information is available from Parking Operations. The Campus Bus Service and Bloomington Transit websites can help you find alternatives to parking on campus.

Attending Orientation:
A New Student Orientation will be held each semester for new and returning students. Check the ASR Calendar of Events or contact Adult Student Resources at continue@indiana.edu for more information.

Registering for classes:
OneStart: IU’s web-based portal for online student services such as registration, viewing your financial aid account and bursar bill, updating your personal information, and viewing your advising guide and unofficial transcript. Follow the link for the OneStart tutorial for more information on using this site.
Office of the Registrar- Where you will find the Official Calendar, Final Exam Calendar, Schedule of Classes, along with general policy information regarding grades and registration.

How will my previously earned credits transfer?:
Visit the Office of Admissions Transfer Credit Service to find out.

Obtain a student ID:
Once you have registered for classes, you are eligible to receive a CampusAccess Card, which is your official IU Photo ID. Visit the CampusAccess Card website for more information.

Academic Support:
A variety of academic support resources exist on campus to help you succeed as a returning student
Academic Support Center: offering a wide range of free services including tutoring, advising, work shops, review sessions and other academic support.
Writing Tutorial Services: in Ballantine 206 provides free 50-minute tutorials on all stages of the writing process, by appointment.
Math Learning Center: a group tutoring experience available on a walk-in basis.
Student Academic Center: offering courses and workshops designed to help students prevent academic problems as well as recover good academic standing after they have failed.
